So you work in hospitality & want to get into Drinks Field Sales?
• Being self motivated and tenacious enough to get yourself out up & each day when often you’re the only person in your business in your city – it’s not like walking to the bar & being around your team or with your line manager all day. It can be lonely.
• Being organised enough to plan your route, do your admin and keep on top of any reporting you have to do and of course communication with your team & customers.
• Being confident to walk through a bar door, introduce yourself & build rapport quickly & easily. Piece of cake, right? As one candidate recently said to me ‘it’s nerve wracking not having my steel safety barrier in front of me’ (his bar)! This is way harder than you think. A successful introduction & striking up genuine rapport, is an art.
• Show a genuine interest by asking the right questions. This is key to genuinely understanding your customers’ needs & wishes, ensuring that you can recommend the right brands or products that will work best for them, ensuring they gain your trust & build a long lasting working relationship.
• Learning your brand story & taste notes is essential. It will mean you can present the brand with all the brand facts, story, features and benefits, ensuring the customer can see what a great opportunity this is for them & should result in a sale or at least a positive next step.
